Cloud 9

After multiple hints i decided to treat Cathryn (my beloved) to a Hot Air Balloon ride for Christmas, purely as a token of my love and to show just exactly how much I mean to her …..

We had patiently waited for an appropriate time in both our calendars, and a time where the weather ‘might’ just hold up for us. August seemed like a sensible time, so we got the date booked in! the location (5 minutes up the road) perfect! rendezvous ‘early’ … After the initial shock of learning that 4.30 comes more than once a day and two very strong double espresso’s, Cathryn and I found ourselves stood in the middle of a moist field just outside Newby Bridge, assisting the Pilot inflate a rather large balloon with 14 other, equally enthusiastic, blurry eyed, bed haired individuals.

I have to admit, the experience was like nothing else! it truly was a unique feeling of weightlessness and combing of senses! the expected stretching of wicker, the reassuring warmth from the occasional exhaust blast! the moisture in the clouds and not to mention the breathtaking views up and down the Lake District, in particularly lake windermere.

We drifted along quite leisurely towards Crook, where the patchwork views of the Lyth Valley stretched out below and the occasional break in the cloud gifted us with a wash of golden sun rays. I highly recommend it for anyone! and strongly suggest doing it over the Lakes. I’ve shared a couple of pictures from my instagram account that I hope you enjoy.
